Geriatric ophthalmology plays a crucial role in preserving sight and quality of life for aging populations. As per the analysis of the Global Burden of Disease Study (Lancet Glob Health. 2021;9(2):e130-e143), the prevalence of vision impairment (VI) and visual dysfunction disproportionately affects older adults. Recent studies show that 1 in 4 adults over the age of 71 experience visual impairment, defined as VA 20/40. With the rising global life expectancy, the demand for specialized eye care for the elderly is greater than ever. This newsletter is dedicated to sharing information on aging and eye diseases, screening techniques, and resources related to eye care for the elderly.
